Saddam Hussein was the fifth President of Iraq.
His Life
Hussein came into prominence with the 17 July Revolution in 1968. This is when the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party took power in Iraq via a coup. Hussein officially became head of state in 1979. He was President during Iraq's war with Iran and the Gulf War. Unfortunately, he was seen as a dictator by most of the west. Alleging that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, the U.S. and U.K. invaded Iraq to depose Saddam Hussein in 2003. He was captured, and he was executed in 2006.
