About Ruth Graham
Known as the wife of the popular evangelist Billy Graham and prolific writer of Christian books, she has authored and co-authored over 14 books and also contributed to newspapers and other publications. Some of her works include, “Clouds are the Dust of His Feet”, “Prodigals and Those Who Love Them”, “One Wintry Night” and “It’s My Turn”.
Family
She was born to Virginia Leftwich Bell and L. Nelson Bell in Qingjiang, Jiangsu, Republic of China. She had four siblings. The Grahams were married in 1943, they met while in college. They had five children together; Virginia, Anne, Ruth, Franklin, and Nelson Edman.
Education
She studied at Pyeng Yang Foreign School in Pyongyang, Korea, and Montreat, North Carolina. She later completed Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois.
Career
Graham’s first book titled “Our Christmas Story” was published in 1959; it was an illustrated book for kids. She also wrote a collection of poetry for children.
Graham also authored “Legacy of a Pack Rat” in 1989, “Prayers from a Mother’s Heart” in 1992 and “Never Let It End: Poems of a Lifelong Love” in 2001.
Aside from her writing, she supported her husband in his ministry and gave him great advice.
She was also a philanthropist who founded the Ruth and Billy Graham Children’s Health Centre in Asheville, North Carolina.
Awards
The Graham’s were both awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in a special ceremony in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda in Washington, D.C.
