About Rudy Vallee
Early 20th-century American musician, Rudy Vallee, is known to be the inventor [arguably] of the amplification-assisted singing style known as crooning.
Background
The Irish-French-Canadian vocalist grew up in Maine, Canada. The talented musician began with drums. By adolescence, he was playing the clarinet, the piano and the saxophone.
Music Career
Rudy and his music were famous between World War I and World War II. He waded into Hollywood and Broadway later in his career. He starred in some widely-watched movies and shows at the height of his career.
He began hosting a hit radio show called “The Fleischmann's Yeast Hour” in the late 1920s. Though his production crew hated him for his whip-master style leadership style and penchant for physical violence, he was adored greatly by his audiences. “The Fleischmann's Yeast Hour” was arguably one of the first radio variety shows.
The prolific singer died in 1986 in North Hollywood.
