About Rudolf Hess
Rudolf Hess was a German politician who was known for being the Deputy Führer to Adolf Hitler from 1933 to 1941. During the Nazi regime, he was one of the most powerful men in Germany. He was arrested when he arrived in Scotland during World War II to negotiate peace with Britain. He was tried at the Nuremberg Trials, where he was convicted and sentenced to life in prison.
Personal Life
He was married to Ilse Pröhl from 1927 until his death in 1987. The marriage produced his only child, a son named Wolf Rüdiger Hess in 1937.
Trivia
He committed suicide in 1987 at the Spandau Prison while serving his life sentence. After his death, the West Germany authorities demolished the prison in order to prevent it from being turned into a neo-Nazi shrine by Nazi sympathizers.
His son, Wolf Rüdiger, believed his father did not commit suicide but was rather murdered by British agents.
