About Roy O. Disney
After his high school education, Roy O. Disney had the opportunity to work in a bank as a clerk. He left and joined the U.S. Navy in 1917, but could only serve for two years after he was struck with tuberculosis. When he returned from the service, he decided to venture into filmmaking, and together with his brother Walt Disney, they established the Disney Brothers Studio.
At the initial stages of their operation, Roy controlled the finance and business side of the company, while his brother took charge of the creative part. In 1929, he sold the majority of his shares to his brother, but continued to work for the company.
That same year, he was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of the organization, making him the first person to hold that position. After the death of Walt, Roy changed the company’s name to Walt Disney World to honor his business partner and brother.
Family
He was raised by his parents Flora Call and Elias Charles Disney. Aside from Walt, he had another brother called Raymond Arnold Disney whom he worked with at the bank. He married Edna Francis in 1925. The couple had a child called Roy Edward Disney who also worked for his family’s production company for many years.
Honors
He has been honored with a star on the highly-esteemed Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Death
He died at the age of 78 after he battled with a stroke.

Jon Heder portrayed his character in the 2015 movie “Walt Before Mickey”.
