About Roy Hibbert
Roy Hibbert joined the NBA in 2008 after he was selected by the Toronto Raptors. That same year, he joined the Indiana Pacers in a trade which saw Jermaine O'Neal going the other way. Hibbert excelled in his four years stay with the team which earned him a spot in the NBA All-Star Game in 2012.
In 2015, he signed for the Los Angeles Lakers. He also had spells with the Charlotte Hornets, and Denver Nuggets before retiring in 2018.
International career
Before playing for the Jamaican basketball team in 2008, Hibbert was a member of the American side that participated in the Pan-American Games in 2007. He became the captain of the Jamaican team in 2010.
As a coach
After his retirement, Hibbert was named as a member of the player development team of the Philadelphia 76ers in 2019.
Family
He was born to a Jamaican father and a Trinidadian mother. He moved to the United States with his parents at the age of 2 years.
Education
He began playing basketball while studying at Georgetown Preparatory School. He continued at Georgetown University where he played for their basketball team.
Achievements
At the end of the 2013/14 season, he was named the second best NBA Defensive Player of the Year.
Fun Facts
His parents initially wanted him to play tennis and golf.
He has also appeared in a number of television shows including “Parks and Recreation” and “The Eric Andre Show”.
