About Roy E. Disney
Roy Edward Disney was the son and nephew of Roy O. Disney and Walt Disney – founders of the famous “Walt Disney Company.” Roy was a long-term senior executive of the company.
Early life
He was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. In 1951, he became an alumnus of Pomona College. He then began working as a supporting director and producer at Walt Disney Productions. In 1967, Roy was elected to sit on the board of directors for the Walt Disney Company.
Career Highlights
As a result of his creative prowess, he served as the Walt Disney Feature Animation chairman. He contributed to the “Disney Renaissance” and release of several commercially successful animation films of the Disney productions, including “The Lion King,” which made almost $1billion net profit for the company.
During his tenure as a senior executive, he organized the dismissal of some Disney executives from their positions, including Michael Eisner and Ron W. Miller.
Trivia
Forbes magazine estimated his net worth to be $1.2 billion in 2006. He was a successful yachtsman and a one-time winner of the Newport Bermuda Race.
Death
He died on December 16, 2009, from stomach cancer at age 76. He held over 16 million Disney shares at the time of his death.
