About Rowan Williams

Rowan Williams is a Welsh religious leader best known for being the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury from 2002 until his retirement in 2012. Prior to that, he was Bishop of Monmouth and the Archbishop of Wales.

Personal Life

In 1981, he got married to Jane Williams, with whom he fathered two children: Rhiannon and Pip.

Trivia

He strongly opposed the Iraq War.

He was one of the prominent figures that kicked against France's plan to outlaw all religious symbols and the wearing of the hijab by female Muslims in French schools.

In a 2014 interview with the Telegraph, he confessed that he never really wanted to be the Archbishop of Canterbury.

He officiated at the 2011 wedding of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey.
