About Ron Jaworski
Ronald ‘Ron’ Vincent Jaworski is a retired American football quarterback. He is considered as one of the greatest quarterbacks in professional football, playing an important role in helping the Philadelphia Eagles land their first ever Super Bowl appearance in 1980.
Early Life and Career
The New York native was a three-sport athlete while in high school. He refused an offer to play professional baseball from the St. Louis Cardinals, opting to attend college at Youngstown State University. While in college, he was selected to play in the Senior Bowl, a college football all-star game. Before graduating, he held several school records, including most pass completions in a season, most touchdown passes in a single game, and pass completions in a career.
Jaworski joined the Los Angeles Ram in 1973, where played for the team for four years before being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. In Philadelphia, he led the team to their first Super Bowl in 1980.
He also played for the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs before retiring in 1989. Following his successful career, he ventured into business and broadcasting.
Awards and Recognition
In 1985, Jaworski received the Ed Block Courage Award after being voted by his Philadelphia Eagles teammates. He was inducted into Youngstown’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986, as well as the National Polish-American Hall of Fame in 1991.
