About Roland Moreno
In 1974, French inventor Roland Moreno made a revolutionary discovery when he developed a way to save information without using too much energy with a smart card. He received the Légion d’Honneur in 2009 for his invention.
Background
Moreno was born in Cairo, Egypt and moved to France with his family later in his childhood. He dropped out of school when he was young and chose to work odd jobs. In the early 1970s, he worked as an editor at Chimie-Actualités, a chemistry magazine.
Invention
He later founded his business, Innovatron. He found initial success but gained more popularity after his discovery of the smart chip. Moreno said he got the inspiration to develop the chip in a dream. It took about eight years for his invention to be used mainstream, both in France and at the international level.
Moreno was also an author and penned several books, including “Théorie du Bordel Ambiant”, as well as a cookbook called “L’Aide-Mémoire du Nouveau Cordon-blue.”
