About Robert Henri
Robert Henri as an artist served as an influence for a modern group of painters called The Eight and/or the Ashcan School. That group of artists were interested in subjects focusing on the reality of urban street-life.
Personal Life
From 1884 to 1888, he attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, the Académie Julian and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
He had two marriages.
Career
Henri made New York his home in 1900 and was an instructor at the New York School of Art. He organized a single, group exhibition in 1908 with seven other artists labeled "The Eight". He hosted another show as a direct rebuttal to the National Academy. "The Art Spirit," based on his teachings, was published in 1923.
Demise
Metastatic prostate cancer was the underlying cause of his neuritis attack in 1928. He tragically died from a cardiac attack on July 12, 1929
