About Robert Bork
Robert Bork was a recognized American politician and judge who briefly served as the Attorney General of the United States between 1973 and 1974. Within that period, he was also the country’s Solicitor General, and served in that position until 1977.
President Ronald Reagan chose him to work as a judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. He was also nominated by the President to serve as the Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States in 1987. He was however rejected by the Senate, citing his part in the ‘Saturday Night Massacre’ as one of the reasons for his denial.
Family
He was born to a schoolteacher mum called Elisabeth Bork, and her husband Harry Philip Bork Jr. He married Claire Davidson in 1952 and together they had three children named Charles, Robert and Ellen. After her death in 1980, Bork married a lady called Mary Ellen Pohl, an activist.
Education
He earned his first degree from the University of Chicago. He was later trained at the institution’s law school.
Trivia
As a scholar, he published many books with some titled “Slouching Towards Gomorrah” and “The Antitrust Paradox”.
He inspired the use of the word ‘bork’ which is known to be an American political slang. The Oxford English Dictionary included the word in their list of vocabularies in 2002.
