She is an American actress, producer and TV presenter, who is mostly prominent for her lead role appearance in the 1988 American comedy-drama, "Hairspray" where she played the role of Tracy Turnblad.
She began holding her eponymously named talkshow, "Ricki Lake" in 1993 until 2004, which earned her international recognition as well.
She started hosting the aforementioned talkshow at the age of 24, making her the youngest to achieve such a feat at the time. Some of her notable works include; "Last Exit to Brooklyn" (1989), "A Dirty Shame" (2004), "The Business of Being Born" (2008), "Gemini" (2017), "Loose Women" (2019), and more.

She was born to Barry Lake, who was a pharmacist, and Jill Lake, who was a homemaker.
She got married to Rob Sussman in 1994, a marriage that ultimately ended in 2004. She married Christian Evans in 2012 – the union ended in 2015. Her children are Milo and Owen Sussman.
