About Richie McCaw
Richard Hugh McCaw has won it all when it comes to the sport of rugby. The New Zealand retired professional rugby union player made his domestic debut in 2000, a year after he had received his call into New Zealand’s U21 team. In 2001, he joined the domestic rugby team, the Crusaders, with which he would achieve several local feats. He later served as the captain of New Zealand’s national rugby team, the All Blacks from 2004 until his retirement in 2015.
Family Life
He was raised alongside a sister named Joanna on their parents’ farm in the Waitaki District of New Zealand. Since January 2017, he has been married to New Zealand field hockey player, Gemma Flynn, whom he started dating in January 2012. They welcomed their second daughter in 2021.
Achievements
He was made an inductee of the World Rugby Hall of Fame in 2019. He was a recipient of the World Rugby Player of the Year award three times and was named the World Rugby Player of the Decade (2011-2020).
Trivia
Since his retirement, he has pursued his flying passion and even went on to earn a commercial helicopter licence.
