About Richard Simmons
Richard Simmons was a celebrated American fitness guru, comedian and actor who had over the years inspired several thousands of people across the globe to lose weight through his numerous fitness and aerobic videos, most notably his Sweatin' to the Oldies aerobics videos. He was also known for appearing in numerous television shows, including a 4-year stint on the popular medical drama series General Hospital.

He was born to Shirley May and Leonard Douglas Sr. He had an older brother who went by the name Leonard, Jr.
Trivia
Throughout his adolescent years, he suffered from severe obesity and asthma. His obesity problem got so severe that he weighed 268 pounds by the time he completed high school.
According to him, what motivated him the most to lose weight was when someone placed a note on his car saying that “fat people die young”.
In 2016, there were rumors that he was transitioning to become a woman. He however, denied the reports.
