About Renzo Piano
Renzo Piano worked as a lecturer before he was hired by renowned architect Louis Kahn. In 1968, he designed his first building which was Genoa’s IPE factory. Since then, the Italian architect has gone on to design many popular buildings across Europe including The Shard, which was UK’s tallest building as of January 2022.
He established the Renzo Piano Building Workshop in 1987 which, as of 2017, had more than 100 partners.
Family
His father, Carlo Piano, was also into building construction. He was the brother of Italian engineer Ermanno. He is married to a lady called Milly. His four children are Lia, Giorgio, Carlo, and Matteo.
Education
He was trained at the Polytechnic University of Milan, and the University of Florence.
Achievements
In 1998, he was honored with the Pritzker Architecture Prize. Other laurels that he has received include the Royal Gold Medal, Gold Medal for Italian Architecture, and the AIA Gold Medal.
Trivia
Some popular buildings that he has worked are New York City’s Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Centre Georges Pompidou which can be found in Paris.
