About Regis Philbin
Regis Philbin was a television personality, singer, actor and author best known for hosting a number of popular game and television shows such as Live! with Regis, Kathie Lee and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. He is regarded as one of the greatest game show hosts of all-time. As an actor, he appeared in dozens of TV series and films. In 2003, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Family Life
He was born to Filomena and Francis Philbin. From 1955 to 1968, he was married to his first wife Catherine Faylen, with whom he had Amy and Daniel. His second marriage was to Joy Philbin in 1970. His union with Joy produced two children, Jennifer and Joanna.
Achievements
In 2001 he was named “Personality of the Year” at the TV Guide Award. He received the “Walter Camp Distinguished American Award” in 2003.
In 2006 Philbin became an inductee of the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame as well as the Television Hall of Fame.
Trivia
In 2009, having appeared for 16,540.5 hours on TV, he set a Guinness World Records for being the first person to have spent the most time in front of a TV camera.
Philbin had his high school education at the Cardinal Hayes High School – he graduated in the year 1949. He continued his college education at the University of Notre Dame, where he received a sociology degree after he graduation in 1953.
He was a big fan of sports and enjoyed watching football and baseball. He supported professional baseball team, New York Yankees.
