About Redd Foxx
Redd Foxx was the stage name of John Elroy Sanford, an American stand-up comedian and actor who was active from 1935 to 1991. He became successful in the 1950s and 1960s through his stand-up comedy performances in nightclubs. He rose to nationwide fame when he starred as Fred G. Sanford in the sitcom, “Sanford and Son" from 1972 to 1977. He also appeared in the short-lived sitcom, “The Redd Foxx Show”.
Personal Life
He was the son of Mary Hughes and Fred Sanford, who abandoned them when he was four. He grew up in South Side, Chicago, alongside an elder brother named Fred Jr. He married four times and did not have any biological children.
Death
He died a few hours after getting a heart attack while on the set of “A Royal Family” on 11 October 1991. He was 68.
