About Ray Manzarek
Described by the USA Today newspaper as one of the top keyboardists in history, Ray Manzarek became a global celebrity in 1965 when he co-founded the rock band known as The Doors. The group is best recognized for their hit song "Light My Fire" which was released in 1967. Manzarek was an active member of the band when they issued their self-titled maiden album.
Aside from the Doors, the American musician also performed with other prominent collectives such as Manzarek–Krieger, and Nite City.
Solo career
Aside from his successful career with the various bands, Manzarek also completed many solo projects. He released his first album titled “The Golden Scarab” in 1974. By the end of 2006, he had a total of four albums under his belt.
Family
His parents, Raymond Sr and Helena Manczarek, helped him during the initial stages of his career. He was married to Dorothy Aiko Fujikawa and together they had a son called Pablo.
Education
His education at St. Rita of Cascia High School ended in 1956. He then moved to DePaul University before reading economics at the institution’s College of Commerce.
He also had a brief stint at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law.
Achievements
In 1993, he, alongside other members of the Door band, were added to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Death
He died in Germany where he had gone for cancer treatment. He was 74 years old.
Trivia
He appeared in many films which include “Deal of the Century” and “The Wino and the Blind Man”.
