About Randall Thompson
The American musician was known for his choral works and for his popular anthem “Alleluia”.
Education
He studied at The Lawrenceville School and Harvard University. He also obtained a doctorate in music from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester.
Music Career
He taught at the Curtis Institute of Music and was its director from 1941 – 1942. He also had teaching spells at the University of Virginia and Harvard University.
He was the writer of three symphonies and several vocal compositions, including “Frostiana”, “The Testament of Freedom” and “The Peaceable Kingdom”.
Thompson also composed a number of operas, including “The Nativity According to St. Luke” and “Solomon and Balkis”.
Honors
He was awarded the University of Pennsylvania Glee Club Award of Merit for the first time on May 02, 1964.
