She is the daughter of Lance McAdams and Sandra Gale. She is related to James Gray, who served as a loyal ranger during the American Revolution. She had her education at Central Elgin Collegiate Institute and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from York University.
She once had a short-term relationship with Ryan Gosling, whom she starred with in the film “The Notebook”. She started to see Jamie Linden in 2016 and she has two children with him.
