About Pope Paul III
Pope Paul III was Pope of the Roman Catholic Church from 1534 until his death in 1549. He served as the Cardinal Bishop of Ostia and the Vice-Dean of the College of Cardinals under Pope Clement VII, whom he succeeded. During his tenure as pope, he convoked the Council of Trent and encouraged Michelangelo to complete the Last Judgment in the Sistine Chapel of the Vatican Palace. His legacy was marred by nepotism after he made one of his sons the Duke of Parma and elevated two of his grandsons to the cardinalate.
Family Life
He was the oldest son of Pier Luigi I Farnese and Giovanna Caetani. During his years as a cleric, he fathered five children.
