She is a seasoned actress, singer, and stage director, who is mostly known for her role in the popular NBC's 1984 - 1992 sitcom entitled, "The Cosby Show", where she played the role of Clair Huxtable – a role which gave her much popularity and award nominations as well.
Some of the notable on-screen projects in which she has been part of include "Once Upon a Time...When We Were Colored" (1995), "Good Deeds" (2012), "Creed II" (2018), "Jingle Jangle" (2020), and more.
Personal Life
She was born to father, Andrew Allen who was an orthodontist. Her mother, Vivian Ayers was an artist, poet, publisher, and playwright. Her siblings are named Hugh, Andrew Jr., and American actress and musician, Debbie Allen.
She became married to William Bowles Jr. in 1972, a short-lived marriage that ended after three years, in 1975. She was married to American actor, singer and songwriter, Victor Willis between 1978 and 1982.
She became the wife to American sportscaster, Ahmad Rashād from 1985 until 2001. Her children include; William, and American actress, Condola Rashad.
Achievements
She received the accolade for "Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series" at the 1988, 1989, and 1997 NAACP Image Awards.
She was declared the "Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play” at the 2004 Tony Awards.
She took home the award for "Theatrical Arts Award" at The BET Honors.
