A talented songwriter, Phil Vassar made his debut in the country music scene in the 1990s. Having written songs for some of the top country artists, Vassar took a step to Nashville and struck out as a hitmaker and songwriter. He is known for writing and collaborating with a number of musicians, including Alan Jackson.
Early Life
This Virginia-native moved to Nashville after graduating from James Madison University to pursue his passion. There, he came to be noticed for his writing skills. Penning songs for Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson and Jo Dee Messina was not so fulfilling, he decided to take a step further to become a lead singer.
Career
Vassar signed with Arista Nashville and released his debut single "Carlene" in 1999 and it was an instant hit. He did not look back but went on to drop his debut album “Phil Vassar” with hit singles in 2000. His status as an accomplished country music star was solidified after the release of "Prayer of a Common Man" in 2008. He would go on to release many other albums after that, including “Traveling Circus”, “American Soul” and “Noel”. In 2020, he release “Stripped Down”.
“Just Another Day in Paradise” and Other Hits
He collaborated with songwriter and music producer Craig Wiseman to write “Just Another Day in Paradise” in 2000. The song was a huge success, earning the country singer his first no. 1. The song made it to number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Four years after “Just Another Day in Paradise”, Vassar was at it again. The country singer and songwriter co-wrote the song “In a Real Love” with Wiseman. A single from Vassar’s third studio album “Shaken Not Stirred”, the song climbed very high on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. It was the singer’s second song to earn the number one position.
Personal Life
In 2002, Vassar tied the knot with Julie Wood, who is also a songwriter. The couple parted ways after five years in the marriage.
