About Phil Donahue
Phillip John Donahue worked his way up from a radio and television production assistant in 1957 to become one of America’s all-time greatest television talk show hosts.
He began to gain traction in the early 1960s when he worked at WHIO-TV and WHIO radio as a morning newscast anchor and an afternoon talk show host, respectively.
He rose to nationwide fame through his television talk show, “The Phil Donahue Show”. He was also the creator of the show, which ran from 1967 to 1996.
Family Life
He grew up in Cleveland, Ohio under the care of his parents, Catherine McClory and Phillip Donahue. He had five children from his 1958 marriage to Margaret Cooney, which ended in 1975. In 1980, he married actress, Marlo Thomas.
Achievements
He was the recipient of 20 Emmy Awards for his work as a broadcaster. He was an inductee of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame.
