Trivia
His love for traveling around Europe just for pleasure earned him the name "the first tourist".
In 1327, he fell madly in love with a woman named Laura, who could not return his love since she was already married to another man. His yearning for Laura ended up becoming the major subject of his works for the rest of his life. Although he never revealed Laura's real identity, many suspect she was Laura de Nove, the wife of Count Hugues de Sade.
