About Pete Maravich
Pete Maravich, also known by the nickname “Pistol Pete”, was a professional American basketball player whose career in the NBA began in 1970 with the Atlanta Hawks. Upon his departure from the Hawks in 1974, he joined the New Orleans /Utah Jazz before ending his successful NBA career with the Boston Celtics in 1980.
Personal Life
He was married to Jackie Maravich from 1976 until his death in 1988. The marriage produced two sons: Jason and Josh.
Achievements
Upon his induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987, he became one of the youngest basketball players to ever receive that honor. He was also posthumously inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.
Trivia
The last words he reportedly said before he died of heart failure at the age of 40 were the words "I feel great".
His children did not attend his funeral because their mother wanted to shield them from the press.
