About Perry McCarthy
The British driver, Perry McCarthy, was a Formula One racer and a book author. He also starred as The Sting in “Top Gear”, a British motoring TV show.
Background and Early Life
He was born in Stepney, England. He worked with his father’s company on the Oil Rigs of the North Sea. He made his racing debut in 1985 in the Formula Ford competition. He placed 18th after the race. He also raced in Formula 3 France, Formula 3 Britain, Formula 3 Euro Series and Formula 300.
Career
In 1991, he was selected to test for Footwork, a British Formula one motor racing team. However, he didn’t make it until the next year when he was signed by Andrea Moda’s team. He made his first Grand Prix appearance in Spain but he was disqualified due to an engine failure. Again, he was disqualified in the British Grand Prix for using wet tyres on a dry track.
He was unsuccessful in his racing career. Some of the tournaments which he was unsuccessful in include the “Hungarian Grand Prix” and “Belgian Grand”.
Trivia
His autobiography, “Flat Out, Flat Broke: Formula 1 the Hard Way!” was published in 2002. The book became an international bestseller.
He is a father and has three children.
