Pelé (Edson Arantes do Nascimento) was a Brazilian football legend. He played as a forward and as an attacking midfielder for Santos, New York Cosmos and the national team of Brazil.

During his career, he scored 1281 goals in 1363 games and he was listed in the Guinness World Records for most career goals scored in football.
He won 3 FIFA World Cups with Brazil, as well as many Best Player Awards.

He was married 3 times and he fathered 7 children including ex-player and coach Edinho. He was also in a 5-year relationship during the 1980's with TV presenter Xuxa.

In 1995 the Brazilian icon was made a sports minister for his country by then-president Fernando Cardoso.
Growing up, his family affectionately nicknamed him “Dico”.
In 2000 Pelé and Argentine football legend Diego Maradona received one of FIFA’s greatest honors “FIFA Player of the Century”.
The Brazilian legend was also an actor. He starred in various films including the sports war film “Escape to Victory”. Said film, which John Huston directed, also starred great actors like Sylvester Stallone and Max von Sydow.
In 1977 the football icon worked alongside Brazilian musician Sérgio Mendes on the soundtrack album to the documentary on the player’s life entitled “Pelé”.
His first wife was Rosemeri Cholbi Nascimento.
He lost his first international game. The forward, who was only 16 at the time, scored Brazil's only goal as they lost by 2-1 against a strong Argentina side at the Maracanã.
Cause of Death
Pelé died in Albert Einstein Hospital from complications of colon cancer.
