The “Doing Too Much” and “When It Was Me” hit singer, Paula DeAnda is a San Angelo-born known for her many talents, including songwriting. DeAnda is also remembered for her appearance on Season 6 of NBC’s singing competition, The Voice.
Background
DeAnda came from a relatively well-off family as her father; Steven worked as a General Manager of a restaurant while her mother, Barbara, was a registered nurse. She grew up studying how to play the piano and with her amazing voice; she performed in a number of events and programs within her neighborhood.
In 2002, in order to hone DeAnda’s music career, her family moved to Corpus Christi, a place in South Texas considered as the hub for music in America.
Career as a musician
DeAnda began her professional music career during the mid-2000s when she debuted with her first album, “Paula DeAnda”. Her first single, ‘Doing Too Much’, which was released in 2006, became one of the most listened to music at the time. The song achieved a position in the Top 50 of the Hot 100 songs on the Billboard chart.
After DeAnda released “Besos", a series of digital singles, it was later made into covers by Joanna Noëlle Levesque, the American singer-songwriter popularly known as "JoJo". Some of these covered songs include, “Your Place”, which was released in 2012, and “Shut Up and Love Me” in 2013.
During the televised boxing fight between Canelo Alvarez vs Austin Trout, DeAnda was contracted to sing the American National Anthem before the fight began in 2013.
Career as an actress
As an actress, in 2007, she portrayed the character Alicia in the movie “Super Sweet 16: The Movie”, where she starred alongside Aly Michalka, Roddy Piper and AJ Michalka. Playing herself, DeAnda made an appearance in a 2008 film about herself titled, “Paula DeAnda (Video-EPK)”.
