About Paul Young
Paul Young is a popular British singer and songwriter. He is known widely as the frontman of the “Q-Tips” street band. However, his solo career brought him many successes in the 1980s and made him a “teen idol” during those years.
Background & Early Life
He lived in Luton, Bedfordshire, during childhood. Growing up, he enjoyed playing football and often trained with the team of the Vauxhall Motors factory.
Young learned to play the bass guitar before his teenage years and played for several bands growing up.
Career Highlights
In the 1970s, he became a “Streetband,” member and the group was later changed to “Q-Tips.” He contributed immensely to the group’s success and went on several great tours, including the 1981 Montreux Jazz Festival. However, the group broke up in 1982 after he agreed to a solo recording deal with CBS.
He released his first album, “No Parlez,” in 1983, and it topped U.L.’s album chart. He also released several solo hit singles in the 1980s that peaked in the top 10 of the U.K. and Billboard chart.
Awards
In 1985, he won the “Brit Award for British Male Solo Musician.”
