About Paul Rand
Paul Rand was a renowned 20th-century graphic designer and director of art who hailed from America. He was widely recognized for the logos he designed for major institutions such as UPS, Enron, Morningstar, Inc., NeXT, Inc., Yale University, and IBM. As a child, he painted signs for his school events and the grocery store of his father.
At Yale University, Rand served as a professor emeritus where he taught graphic design. He lectured between the periods of 1956 to 1969 and 1974 to 1985. In 1972, he became a New York Art Directors Club Hall of Famer.
Education
He studied at the Haaren High School, Pratt Institute, the Art Students League of New York, and the Parsons School of Design.
Family
He was the offspring of Leah Rosenbaum and Itzhak Yehuda Rosenbaum. In 1949, he married Ann Binkley but divorced her in 1960. In 1975, he got married to his second wife, Marion Swannie Rand. He had a daughter named Catherine Rand.
Death
Rand died of cancer in 1996.
Trivia
His birth name was Peretz Rosenbaum.
He was among the early American practitioners of the Swiss Style of graphic designing.
In 1985, Rand published his first book titled “Paul Rand: A Designer's Art”.
