About Paul Kariya
Hailing from Canada, Paul Kariya is an ex-ice hockey player. During his playing days, he played as a winger. He has been recognized as a talented and fast-skating professional. Kariya spent his final three seasons at St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League before going into retirement. He started his career as a youth player, playing for the Penticton Panthers. After an outstanding performance for two seasons, he had several offers from different universities – he finally picked the University of Maine.
In 1993, he was drafted into the National Hockey League during that year’s NHL Entry Draft by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Kariya played for the said team for nine seasons scoring 300 goals and registering 369 assists.
He joined the Colorado Avalanche in 2003 spending only a season with the club. Later, he moved to Nashville Predators for two seasons netting 55 goals and making 106 assists.
Kariya made his U-18 national team debut in 1991. The year after, he joined the U-20 team and represented his country at the 1992 World Junior Championships. Two years later, he was selected for the senior side to represent his nation at the 1994 Men's Ice Hockey World Championships. He also represented his country at the 1996 version of the said competition, which was hosted in Austria.

He was educated at the Argyle Secondary School, Penticton Secondary, and the University of Maine.
Family
He is the son of Tetsuhiko Kariya and Sharon. He has three siblings named Steve, Martin, and Noriko.
Awards
He has won several accolades including the Rookie of the Year, Player of the Year, and Hobey Baker Award in 1993. He also won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy for two straight years. He has also been a seven-time NHL All-Star Game player.
Internationally, Kariya also won several medals with his nation such as the World Junior Championship gold medal (1993), World Championship gold medal (1994), and the 2002 Winter Olympic gold medal.
