His parents were Myron Lawrence Webster and Blanche Pauline Stonehill Webster.
Education
He studied at the Horace Mann School in Riverdale, Bronx, New York) and Cornell University.
Career
Webster’s first work as a lyricist was in 1931 with the song “Masquerade” with music by John Jacob Loeb. The song was performed in 1932 by American composer Paul Whiteman and it became a public sensation.
He also worked on a collaboration with jazz musician Duke Ellington on the 1941 song “I Got It Bad (And That Ain’t Good)” and wrote the lyrics which were used as “Spider-Man” theme song for the “Spider-Man” television cartoon series in 1967.
Honors
He won three Academy Awards for “Best Original Song”.
The songwriter became a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1972.
