About Paul Erdős
Paul Erdős has been considered to be one of the 20th century’s most prolific mathematicians. He became famous for his social mathematics practice and his personal eccentricities. His fields of specialization included graph theory, discrete mathematics, number theory, approximation theory, mathematical analysis, probability theory and set theory. Instead of developing new areas of mathematics, he mostly focused on solving problems that had been left open. 1,500 mathematical papers were published by him in his lifetime.
Personal Life
Both of his sisters died as young children. His parents, Anna Wilhelm and Lajos Erdős were mathematics teachers. He earned a doctorate in mathematics at 21 years old. Most of his life was spent attending international scientific conferences and visiting colleagues. He had no children and never married.
Death
He died on 20th September 1996 from a heart attack during his attendance at a Warsaw conference.
