About Paul Coffey
Though he mostly played as a defender, Canadian ice hockey legend Paul Coffey was admired for his goal scoring abilities. He started attracting attention in 1974 after his fine display in the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament.
Six years later, he was drafted into the National Hockey League as a player of the Edmonton Oilers. Throughout his over two decades in the league, Coffey starred for nine different sides including the Philadelphia Flyers, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Chicago Blackhawks.
International career
Coffey represented his native Canada on many occasions. With his country, he won three Canada Cups. He was also a member of the silver-winning team at the 1996 World Cup.
Personal Life
His three children with Stephanie are named Savannah, Blake and Christian.
Achievements
During his time in the NHL, he won four Stanley Cups; one with the Pittsburgh Penguins and three with the Edmonton Oilers. He also won the James Norris Memorial Trophy three times and in 2004 he became a Hockey Hall of Famer. He has also been inducted into the Legends Row: Mississauga Walk of Fame.
Trivia
He became the owner of the ‘Paul Coffey's Bolton Kia’ following his deal with automobile company Kia.
Coffey has also worked as a coach.
He was included in 2017’s “100 Greatest NHL Players” of all-time.
