About Oswald Veblen
American-born mathematician Oswald Veblen also doubles as a geometer and topologist who made his name known by creating mathematical theories such as the Veblen function and the Veblen hierarchy.
Early Life
The mathematician was born to Andrew Anderson Veblen and Kirsti Veblen. Veblen graduated from the University of Iowa in 1989 and went on to pursue a second degree at Harvard University. After graduating, he attained his Ph.D. at the University of Chicago.
Career
The mathematician began his career by teaching at Princeton University from 1905 to 1932. He made a lot of contributions to topology, differential geometries, and modern physics. He also inculcated the Veblen axioms and proved the Veblen–Young theorem.
Personal Life
Veblen married Elizabeth Richardson in 1908.
