About Omar Khayyám
Omar Khayyám was a Persian astronomer, mathematician and poet regarded as one of the medieval period's most important scientists. One of his best known mathematical works was the influential mathematical treatise titled Treaties on Demonstration of Problems of Algebra. He is also known for the instrumental role he played in the reformation of the Persian calendar. Despite all these accomplishments, he is mainly remembered for his collection of poems known as the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam.
Trivia
His popularity in the West did not come until several centuries after his death when English poet Edward FitzGerald translated a selection of his poems from Persian to English and published them under the title the Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám.
The minor planet 3095 Omarkhayyam, which was discovered in 1980, was named after him.
