About Olaf Scholz
Before his political career, Olaf Scholz worked as a lawyer. In 1975, he joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). He worked with the party’s youth group for a period of time before he was voted into the Bundestag in 1998. Three years later, he was elected as the Senator for the Interior of Hamburg.
Members of the SPD, in 2002, elected Scholz as their General Secretary. The German politician held different political positions before he was appointed as Hamburg’s First Mayor in 2011. Between 2018 and 2021, he served as Germany’s Vice Chancellor. Within that same period, he doubled as the Finance Minister of the country.
After the tenure of Angela Merkel, Scholz took over as Germany’s Chancellor. He has been credited for his defense policy which he made public in his famous Zeitenwende speech in February 2022.
Family
He has two brothers named Ingo Scholz, an entrepreneur, and Jens Scholz, who’s known for his time with the University Medical Center Schleswig Holstein. He has been married to German politician Britta Ernst since 1998.
Education
This famous politician attended the University of Hamburg where he read law.
Trivia
He has also worked with some popular organizations such as the European Investment Bank, and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
As a lawyer, he specialized in employment and labor laws.
During one of his speeches in August 2022, he was interrupted by a number of topless protesters who were unhappy with his leadership.
