About Odilo Globocnik
Odilo Globocnik was an Austrian Nazi Party member and one of the main culprits of the Holocaust. He also served as one of the leaders of the SS, a paramilitary organization of the party which committed unspeakable war crimes during World War II.
Early Life
Globocnik was born to Anna Petschinka and Franz Globocnik. Young Globocnik started work with Imperial and Royal Mail but later joined the army and fought in the Carinthian War from 1918 to 1919. Upon his return, he attended the Höhere Staatsgewerbeschule, where he graduated with honors in mechanical engineering.
Career
Globocnik became politically active in 1922, joining the pre-Nazi Carinthian paramilitary. He became a member of the Austrian SS in 1933. He was part of the infamous Operation Reinhard, which was an organized murder of more than one million Jews, mainly of Polish descent.
Death
Globocnik was pursued and apprehended by the British Army in late May 1945 but committed suicide by biting on a cyanide capsule before he was interrogated.
