Hailing from England, Nigel Lythgoe is a TV and film producer and director. He was also a dancer and choreographer. Lythgoe began dancing at the age of 10. Some of the shows he has produced include The Next Great American Band, So You Think You Can Dance, The Brian Conley Show and Superstars of Dance.

He is the child of Gertrude Emily and George Percival Lythgoe. In 1974, he wedded Bonita Shawe but divorced her in 2010. His two children are Simon Lythgoe and Kristopher Lythgoe. He has five grandchildren whose names are George, Kyan, Dominie, Leonardo and Tighe.

In 2007, he won The Governors Award. Lythgoe has been nominated for Emmy Awards five times since 2004.Also, in 2011, he was the recipient of the International Emmy Founders Award. In 2014, he received the Ellis Island International Medal of Honor. The following year, he was honored with the Order of The British Empire by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
