It's no surprise that center defense Nicolas Alexis Julio N'Koulou Ndoubena, a product of Kadji Sports Academy, has become a fan favorite like his academy colleagues Samuel Eto"o and Eric Djemba-Djemba. His equalizing goal contributed to Cameroon's victory in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
Background
He was signed by AS Monaco in 2007 after starting out at the Kadji Sports Academy. He played in two pre-season games and made his professional debut in 2008. He signed with French club Marseille in June 2011. After five seasons at Marseille, where he first played in the Champions League, he transferred to rivals Lyon. During his first meeting against Marseille, which ended in a 0-0 draw on September 18, 2016, he was booed by Marseille supporters every time he touched the ball.
In 2017, Torino acquired him on loan and was voted the best Torino player by the fans at the end of his first season with the club. He joined English side Watford for the 2021-22 season, but was released after the club was relegated that season. He signed a two-year, free-transfer contract with Greece's Aris in August 2022.
The center back made his debut for Cameroon senior side in 2008. Between 2008 and 2017, he made over 65 appearances for Cameroon.
