Nicolas Cage is an iconic actor and producer whose famous film credits include “Con Air”, “National Treasure”, “Lord of War”, and “Ghost Rider”. He made his film debut in “The Best of Times”, a 1981 film written by Bob Arnott and Carol Hatfield Sarasohn. He featured in the film with Crispin Glover, Janet Robin and Jackie Mason. He played a very minor role in the 1982 film “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”, which starred Seann Penn, Judge Reinhold and Vincent Schiavelli.

Cage became famous after he made an appearance in the crime thriller film “Kiss of Death” which was released in 1995. His career breakthrough was in the 1995 film “Leaving Las Vegas”. His remarkable performance in the movie earned him an Academy Awards in 1996 for “Best Actor”.

Cage made a voice appearance in “The Croods” which was released in 2013. The movie became successful and made a huge take at the box office, securing more than half a billion dollars.

Aside from Golden Globe and Academy Awards, he was awarded by the National Board of Review in 2005 for his production in the crime drama film “Lord of War”.

Family and Education

He is the son of the American author and film executive Augusta Coppola and Joy Vogelsang. His brothers include Christopher Coppola who is a film producer and director. He had his education at Beverly Hills High School and also went to UCLA School of Theatre, Film and Television where he trained to become an actor.

He changed his name from Coppola to Cage because when he started to act in his movies produced by his uncle, he didn’t want people to have the perception that he was being favored by his uncle.

He was married to Patricia Arquette from 1995 to 2001. He married his second wife Lisa Marie Presley in 2002. The couple's divorce was finalized in 2004. His third marriage was to Alice Kim in 2004. Alice gave birth to their son, Kal-El in 2005. Cage’s fifth wife is Riko Shibata, whom he married in 2021.

Controversy

In 2011, Cage was arrested for alleged domestic abuse of his wife. He remained in police custody for some time before he was granted bail. Few weeks later, all charges against him were dropped.

Trivia

He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Golden Globe Award winner also engaged in charitable works. He gave out one million dollars to persons who were affected by Hurricane Katrina.
