About Nicholas Roerich
Nicholas Roerich would be remembered for his numerous campaigns against the demolishing of architecture and art during the period of wars. It was in view of this that the Roerich Pact was signed in 1935. As an artist, he was said to be a very influential member of the Russian Symbolism movement.
Some of his most popular works were titled “Treasure of angels”, “The Messenger” and “And We Are Trying”. He also worked as the director of the Imperial Society for the Encouragement of the Arts between 1906 and 1917.
Family
His mother was a Russian and his dad was a Baltic German. He was married to Helena Roerich and had two children named Svetoslav Roerich and George de Roerich.
Education
He studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts, as well as St. Petersburg University.
Trivia
Roerich was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize on many occasions.
He designed the set and costumes for Igor Stravinsky’s 1913 work titled “The Rite of Spring”.
Between 1910 and 1916 he served as the president of the "World of Art" movement.
4426 Roerich, a minor planet, was named after him.
