About Ned Wertimer
Ned Wertimer was an American actor best known for his role as the money-hungry doorman Ralph Hart on the sitcom “The Jeffersons”. He always appeared with an outstretched hand in search of a tip, a gesture which caused giggles from viewers.
Before Fame
After serving as a pilot during the Second World War, Wertimer enrolled in the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School where he majored in business administration.
Following his participation in the comedy troupe Mask and Wig Club, he sought to pursue a career as an actor. He moved to New York and made his first appearance on Broadway in the play “Texas Li'l Darlin” in 1949.
Career
By the mid-1960s, he had moved to Los Angeles. He made several appearances in shows like “Gunsmoke”, “McMillan & Wife”, “Car 54, Where Are You?”, “The Debbie Reynolds Show”, and “Family Law”.
At the age of 52, Wertimer got his most recognizable role on the critically acclaimed sitcom “The Jeffersons” where he appeared on 51 episodes.
In 2007, he starred alongside Johnny Depp in “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End”. The film turned out to be his last.
Death
Wertimer died in 2013 at the age of 89.
