About Nathuram Godse
Nathuram Godse was an Indian nationalist who gained notoriety in Indian and around the world for assassinating Mahatma Gandhi in 1948. He was tried and sentenced to death in 1949. That same year, he was executed by hanging.
Family Life
He was born to Lakshmi and Vinayak Vamanrao Godse. He had three elder brothers, who all died in infancy.
Trivia
He shot Gandhi three times in the chest at point-blank range.
After he was sentenced to death, two of Gandhi's children pleaded for commutation on his behalf, but the requests were strongly rejected by Indian's Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and several other top government officials and he was swiftly executed.
Ironically, in his youth, he admired and respected Gandhi.
