About Myron Cope
Myron Cope’s broadcasting career started in the 1960s as a commentator for Pittsburgh-based radio station WTAE-AM. In 1970, he was hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers football team as their color commentator. He spent over three decades with the team and would be remembered for his role in introducing the Terrible Towel. He also appeared on WTAE-TV. In 2005, he retired from broadcasting.
As an author
In addition to his work as a broadcaster, Cope was also an author. His first book titled “Off My Chest” was published in 1964. In 2002, he published his autobiography entitled “Double Yoi!”.
Family
His 29-year marriage to Mildred Lindberg produced three kids.
Honors
In 2005, his name was included in the Radio Hall of Fame. That same year, he received a Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award.
Trivia
He was popular for his "yoi" catch phrase.
7835 Myroncope, an asteroid, was named after him in 2008.
He was the first broadcaster to be named into the Board of Selectors of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
