About Muammar Gaddafi
Muammar Gaddafi was a politician, dictator, and a military and revolutionary figure. After getting a degree in Law, he leaded a revolution in 1969 to overthrow the king Idris I of Libya, dissolving afterwards the Kingdom of Libya and forming the Libyan Arab Republic.
During his government, he promoted left-wing politics, placing a strong emphasis on the distribution of wealth and anti-colonialism. In his later years, he was also a strong defender of Pan-Africanism.
Even though those legislations were celebrated by the new-founded Republic of Libya’s inhabitants, much of the population soon turned against him for Gaddafi’s corruption and violation of human rights.
After a rebellion, an opposition force captured the capital and he fled to Sirte, where he exerted a parallel government. After a few weeks, he got wounded and eventually captured. He was then publicly executed.
