About Moya Brennan
Prior to becoming a household name thanks to her smash debut album "Maire," Irish folk singer, composer, and musician Máire Philomena Ni Bhraonain was a member of the Clannad family band. The Emmy winner has been dubbed the "First Lady of Celtic Music."
Early Life
She grew up with eight siblings, and she is the oldest child of her parents. After completing her secondary education, she pursued piano, singing, and harp studies at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. She was a music teacher at Holy Cross College.
Career
She formed Clannad in 1970 with her two brothers and twin uncles. Between the 1970s and 1980s, she and her band were successful, and they even produced the music for the hit TV show "Robin of Sherwood."
Her first solo album, "Máire," came out in 1992 followed by "Misty Eyed Adventures." She worked on the score for "To End All Wars" (2001) and co-wrote (with German composer Hans Zimmer) “Tell Me Now (What You See)," which is the title theme for the film "King Arthur" (2004).
The ninth solo album "Canvas" (2017) featured contributions from her children Aisling and Paul.
Trivia
Away from music, she collaborates with NGOs to fight addiction, and domestic abuse.
Personal Life
She wed Tim Jarvis in 1991.
