About Mo Yan
Mo Yan, known in private life as Guan Moye, started his writing career during his days in the army but started attracting attention after the Cultural Revolution period. He published his first novel in 1981 which was titled “Falling Rain on a Spring Night”.
Despite his numerous works, the Chinese writer is best known for his novel titled “Red Sorghum Clan” which was published in 1987. His other popular novels and short stories include “Red Forest” and “The Woman with Flowers”.
Personal Life
His child with Du Qinlan is called Guan.
Education
He studied at Lu Xun School of Literature and later enrolled at Beijing Normal University. He was also a student of the People's Liberation Army Arts College.
Decorations
He was the recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2012. Three years before that, the University of Oklahoma honored him with its Newman Prize for Chinese Literature, making him the first person to receive that accolade.
Trivia
In 1976, he joined the People's Liberation Army.
His pen name translates into English as "don't speak".
